Very Good at what it was "Supposed" to be.

*** This review may contain spoilers ***

    ****SPOILERS BELOW****

After reading the posted reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect from
this movie except that as opposed to being a "Sequel" this movie
actually is a "Prequel" to the Jason Statham "Death Race" of 2008. On
the front IMDb page for DR-2 is says "An origin story for convicted cop
    killer Frankenstein."

So by the time I sat down to watch the movie, although confused by the
contradicting reviews, I assumed the movie was a prequel, thus
"Technically" misnamed. (Or should I say "Misleadingly Named"? Perhaps
"Death Race The Beginning" or something like that would have been
    better?)

Some reviews I had read stated the producers/director of the movie
"tried to hard" to make this films lead, Carl "Luke" Lucas, played by
Luke Goss look like Jason Statham in the '08 Remake. Thinking back to
that movie, I remember Stathams Character was chosen to become
"Frankenstein" because he was as of similar fit and build, or he looked
like "Frankenstein". So if you're doing a movie explaining where
Frankenstein came from, started, wouldn't it make sense to do this?

Another review I read said DR-2 never even mentions Frankenstein. While
most of the movie doesn't have that character, the point of the movie
is about how Lucas becomes Frankenstein. In my opinion, the back story
of Carl Lucas, the get-away driver, then cop-killer, then Death Match
contestant, then Death Race Driver, then Frankenstein is whole point to
    making this movie.

    The movie explains:

    1. Why Death Race is a hit Webcast as seen in Death Race.(2008) Good
old Television, now Internet, Rating points. Think "Violence Sells".

    2. How something like this was accepted by the general public as
    entertainment.

    3. Where certain characters, like "14K", and "Lists" to name two, got
    involved in the series.

    4. Why female prisoners are used in the series. (Although not expressly
pointed out by the movie, they are for the "Eye Candy" value of the
viewer. See number 1 above. Think "Sex Sells".)

    5. Why Carl Lucas was sent to prison, "Killed" and re-born as
    Frankenstein.

    6. Even why Frankenstein Drives a Mustang.

Obviously this movie didn't have the budget of the remake, but with the
exception of the the beginning of the movies sound editing, it did an
outstanding job of telling the story it was made to do. The acting was
better than I expected, the story as told on screen a little weak, but
still understandable and got the point across. I questioned some
obvious plot holes as they occurred, then remembered much like the
remake, I was watching part movie, part "prerecorded" Web-Cast. (Even
though it was supposed to be a "Live" Web-Cast, it was shown to have
    parts prerecorded.)

Over all I felt this movie made Death Race '08 a better movie. As I re-
watch DR, the normal "Why are they doing this?" "Wonder why Hennessey
is so evil?" and so on is answered. It fills in the questions I have
towards the movie. Which, is what I feel this movie, was "Supposed" to
    be.

    Painful To Watch

This has to be one of the worst movies I have had the chance to see
this year. (It was a almost identical story to the Death Race 2008 -
only far far worse) The 2008 version at least had a bit of originality,
this drivel looks like someone sat down and watched the first version
and then tried to copy it and simply adjusted a few parts of the story
to try not to make it a complete rip off! They even tried to make Luke
Goss look like Statham, it was sad to watch, no wonder this rubbish has
gone straight to Video – it made me cringe to watch it.

I like Danny Trejo, he is a mean SOB, but he looked like he sold out
for the money in this rubbish – he wasn't even acting.

Sean Bean was embarrassing to watch, his ridiculous Northern English
accent, and the over the top behaviour – when he tries to break the
flat screen TV was hilarious, he could barely lift it! What was the
    point?

Complete rubbish from beginning to end.

The Statham version is not really worth watching, but it is 100 times
    better than this tripe!

Luke Goss was ridiculous, the script was terrible, flush this down the
toilet and forget it forever, R.I.P

Overall it ain't so bad but the title is just, wrong.

The movie starts off too slow, it takes half of the movie to get to the
end of all the fighting scenes, than another 30% of the movie is about
people trying to kill the main actor. What i failed to realize is why
did they even named it Death Race?

First part is not Death Race and the 2nd part is a rip-off from the
original. Hell they even used the same cars as in Death Race (2008)

But sure, the movie was watchable and entertaining to some point, but
the ending is the real disappointment. And about being realistic,
they'll need a dictionary for that. Or maybe just type Sci-Fi in the
    title next time.

They should have named the movie Deathmatch.
